Westfield, NC (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Sorry, I couldn't resist taking more pictures of the October spiders around our place. Found several of them (away from the house this time) as well as several empty webs. This spider was enjoying its meal until I got too close, then grabbed its dinner and ran off to a more secluded spot to finish it.

Thanks for your comments, Kim and Dianne! I used to be so creeped out by spiders as a kid that I wouldn't even touch a picture of one! Now, as long as they keep their place, which isn't MY place, ! Dianne, I guess this one didn't want to share.

One of the orb weavers, Betsy, Araneus or maybe Neoscona, but what species, I can't tell, probably more than one. These are extremely common in late summer and fall, thus the local appellation "October spiders." Thanks for looking and commenting!
