Westfield, NC (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: A number of things have kept me busy lately and kept me from participating fully at WUG. One has been the construction of the outdoor pen for my chickens, which has turned into a much bigger project than I anticipated. Fortunately, husband and son have been helping, and all this pen needs now for completion is netting over the top, to keep predators out. Here, pullets check out the chicken door, which is closed at night.

They also peck at my wedding band, Gene, but that doesn't mean they win the gold ring.

Hey, I've seen chickens play tic-tac-toe at the carnival... *and win*... so it doesn't surprise me!

Thanks, Shirley! I did also install a hook and eye on the INSIDE of the door as added protection from predators, but unfortunately, that is rather useless because the chickens themselves peck it open, LOL!

This is a 10-week-old Tetra Tint pullet, Gene; I also have Red Sex Links and some Buff Orpingtons, as well as some younger chicks that are mostly Araucanas. We have already butchered the hybrid meat chickens and have eaten them or put them in the freezer. Yumm! Thanks for commenting!
