Westfield, NC (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Found ONE baby mantis newly hatched from a very worn, bird-pecked egg case on my front porch this morning. Don't know where the rest of them are, unless birds pecked out nearly all the eggs. Chances are they're just slow because of a cold wind today. I'll keep looking!

Yep! I tried using my macro lens on it, but got better results with my regular one. Thanks for commenting, Dave!

Thanks, James; with all the egg cases I have around here, it's almost inevitable there'll be more opportunities. Today, it was almost impossible to photograph this little critter, since the wind was blowing and it never held still more than a second or two. I took some dozens of shots, using my regular and macro lenses, and deleted nearly all of them. I'm convinced there are no lenses and no camera settings suitable for such a small, very active subject. Nick's Macro I ain't, LOL!
