Caption: Little bluebirds are now 6 days old and are starting to show feathers. By this time they know I am not mama, and they will not sit up and open their mouths for me. They leave the nest somewhere between 10 and 14 days of age.

Here is a photo of one of the little bluebirds that fledged from the same box on July 9, 2010:

Thanks, Karen; I'll do the best I can, but so far I am having to pull the nest out of the box momentarily in order to get decent lighting and focus on these little birds. As they grow bigger, the danger of their taking alarm and leaping out of the nest grows too, so my opportunities will grow less, unless I am lucky enough to be able to spot them as they leave naturally. I did that a couple of summers ago, but last year they deserted so quickly I never got the chance.

Awwh. They are so precious. Thank you Kathy for showing us those pretty babies. I just love baby birds, they go from so ugly, to so cute and fluffy. Keep us up to date, cannot wait to see them with all the feathers before they leave the nest. :0) Karen
