Caption: 'So here hath been dawning/ Another blue day:/ Think, wilt thou let it/ Slip useless away./ Out of Eternity/ This new day was born;/ Into Eternity,/ At night, will return./ Behold it aforetime/ No eye ever did;/ So soon it for ever/ From all eyes is hid./ Here hath been dawning/ Another blue day:/ Think, wilt thou let it/ Slip useless away.' -- Thomas Carlyle

Thanks, Mike! I haven't made a conscious effort to memorize poems or other quotes since I finished school, but some are meaningful enough to me that they stick in my head anyway. Some are good philosophies to live by. Many Bible verses are worth memorizing, IMO; God's love letter to us.

Beautiful series and beautiful poem! Congratulations on the AC!

I've been trying to memorize a few poems here and there but don't stick at it long enough.

Thank you, Arlene and Duane! Duane, you're too much! Remember that poem about the purple cow? "I've never seen a purple cow; I hope I never see one. But I can tell you anyhow, I'd rather see than be one." Reportedly, the author got that thrown back at him so many times that he wrote a followup poem that reads, "Oh yes, I wrote The Purple Cow; I'm sorry now I wrote it. But I can tell you anyhow, I'll kill you if you quote it."

I memorized one -" I think that I shall never see a satisfactory referee, One about who head a halo shines, and one who rates reporters lines. One who calls them as they are, and not as how I wish by far. Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can referee. (Sorry Joyce!)

Thou dost wax eloquent on this Sunday morn/ and well done at that. I had to memorize poems too that I can still recall but I don't think kids today have any memorizing to do. Great shot. Arlene

I had to memorize a poem for a literature class in high school, and this is the one I chose. It has remained a favorite, and I can still quote it from memory.
