Caption: During the winter, people in these parts burn unwanted vegetation; it's the easiest way to get rid of it. We have several large clumps of Miscanthus (feather grass), which get untidy by Thanksgiving, with dried leaves blowing around the yard. Here, after it has burned down to embers (which took only a few minutes), I photographed it before turning the hose on it to make sure it was completely out.
