Dome Burning

Uploaded by: ChrisAnthemum

Pinnacle, NC (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: As you can see from this shot, even the dome of Pilot Mountain is on fire. The only way such an inaccessible spot could be reached by firefighters would be by helicopter water drop, which they were doing during the day.

Actually, Eileen, I haven't checked lately. We can still smell smoke here. I think it will be several days yet before the fire is completely out. The dome might just have to burn itself out. I will try to get some pictures of the damage whenever visitors are allowed into the park again.

Another incredible image from this sad situation.
I sure hope they've made some progress in fighting the fire today.

Thank you, Steve; we live about 15 miles away so there is no danger, although we can smell the smoke if the wind is right. Pilot Mountain State Park encompasses over 3000 acres, so there is not much danger of the fire's spreading to private property.

Great documentation of this event. You've managed to capture the stars along with the fire. Is your property in danger? I hope not.
