Caption: Discovered that ants were swarming around my mailbox as the prince and princess ants tried their wings for their mating flight. After that, the princes will die, while the princesses will chew off their wings and burrow into the ground as queens to start their own colony. Here, a princess -- the larger one shown -- is attended by a wingless worker ant. The princesses are only about 1/4 inch long; image is cropped.
