Niland, CA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Hey guys! Been busy lately, but got a chance to drive to California this past weekend and see the Salton Sea for the first time. This was the sunset from Bombay Beach...which is full of ancient, calcium-consumed piers from long ago. A must-visit, despite the dead fish and creepyness!

Image Description: An abandoned dock with a lone lampost sits on the quiet Salton Sea.

I remember driving a semi past there in the early 1970s and the other-worldly, 'edge of the world' feeling I had. Almost forty years later, this photo takes me to that same place, but your sky is so much more memorable than the times I passed the Salton Sea! Thank you for sharing!

Thanks so much everyone for the kind words! Definitely a strange place...hard to describe the contrast of beauty along with the decay.

Appreciate the AC Wunderground!

Great shot! Looks like a scene from one of the Myst games - eerie, lonely, but beautiful.

Very unusual mood to this - has the desolate, yet vibrant feel to it. Beautiful treatment, too. Kudos and AC congrats!

Oh, my... spent my childhood camping out, skiing, getting sunburned, etc. at Bombay Beach (before it got too polluted)! Superb photo and a nostalgic visit in a time machine for me. Thanks so much for posting!!!
