Hopper, AR (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: This old Church of Christ / Community Building in Hopper, Arkansas is over 100 years old. Services continue these days in a much more modern building next door – but the old church still stands and you can enter the ground-floor and look around (just be careful). Seen here in-between scattered showers on a late October afternoon, 2010. Hopper is on the edge of the Ouachita National Forest – Near Norman and a few miles west of Caddo Gap.

Definite 10. No argument on that. Every element is perfect. The light, the color, the surroundings....it's all there. This kind of autumn shot is what I love the most--cloudy with bursts of sunshine and radiant color. When it's cloudy, the trees don't have to compete with the blue sky to showcase their color. The subject matter here is intriguing. Abandoned buildings just invite all kinds of stories. Makes me wonder what this one could tell? Excellent photo!

Just perfect. Not living far away...hope to make the trip and take my own photo, but know I can't top yours. Do hope that you can capture it in all the seasons...maybe with some of our rare snowfall. I think I saw that you posted the same church back in the summer or spring.

Thanks everyone!

I drove 100-miles round-trip just to (hopefully) catch the light on this relic just-right ... and I wasn't disappointed, though I had to wait for the sunset light to make an occasional appearance through the clouds.

I also could have worded the description better - it's mid-October (the 12th), but late in the afternoon when this was taken (not "Late October). I'm afraid that because of how dry it's been in AR, the Autumn foliage won't be too good this year...

WHAT A MAGNIFICENT MASTERPIECE IN PASTEL. THOSE DARK CLOUDS ARE BIDDING A FOND FAREWELL TO THIS HALLOWED HOUSE OF HOPPER. I'M HURRYING RIGHT OVER WITH A PAINT BUCKET. THINK THAT'LL HELP? EASILY AN '85' & CONGRATS ON YOUR 'AC'.
KEEP SENDING...WE LOVE OLD CHURCHES. LOVE & MEMORIES.

An absolute "10!" Great composition and love the subdued colors. Clouds and sunshine in a great, natural way. Old buildings make great photos! This is one I wish I'd have taken!
