The appearance that the mountains are lower than I was flying here is an optical illusion. Blanca Peak IS higher than our altitude. Flight altitude was ~13,000' MSL (mean sea level), not AGL (above ground level). Blanca is 14,345' high MSL, only about 100' lower than Mt. Whitney in CA, the highest peak in the continental US. All comments appreciated.

Beautiful shot. We visited there summer 2010-very impressive to behold, not to mention climb. Wait. If you're at 13k feet, aren't those 14ers down below?

About 2620

2620

I live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a beautiful part of the United States with scenic ancient mountains, beaches, bays, woods, and rivers all within a day's drive or flight. The Appalachians are not as high and rugged as other younger ranges, but they hold their own stark beauty. Many of my photos were taken while traveling. Thanks to all WunderPhoto viewers who send email -- I love to hear from you! Be safe...help people. GO SKYDIVING FOR FUN AND EXCITEMENT!!
