Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 3:20 AM PDT on July 06, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from noon PDT today through 9 PM
PDT this evening...

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of east central California and
western Nevada... including the following areas... in east central
California... greater Lake Tahoe area and Mono County. In western
Nevada... greater Lake Tahoe area... greater Reno-Carson City-Minden
area and Mineral and southern Lyon counties.

* From noon PDT today through 9 PM PDT this evening

* abundant moisture in place across the Sierra and far western
Nevada will combine with daytime heating to produce
thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Any storms that
develop will be slow moving and capable of producing very heavy
rain in a short period of time. These brief heavy rains could
lead to flash flooding and debris flows... especially in areas
where recent rains have left soils nearly saturated... areas of
steep terrain... and near burn scars from recent wildfires.

* Local roads could be impacted by flooding... debris flows and
rock slides making travel hazardous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that flooding of small streams... creeks
and other drainage areas is possible within the watch area.
People in the watch area should monitor weather.Gov/Reno for
updates and be prepared for immediate action should heavy rains
and flooding occur or a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
