Nowcast | as of 12:09 PM EDT on July 4, 2015

A greater coverage of lightning storms is expected today. The East Coast sea breeze has developed south of the cape and is pushing inland which will spark scattered lightning storms from Brevard County southward to Okeechobee County and inland portions of the Treasure Coast. The sea breeze is developing along the Volusia coast at this time and it too will drift slowly inland...eventually sparking scattered lightning storms this afternoon. A collision with the West Coast sea breeze is expected over the interior late this afternoon and early this evening...between 5 and 8 PM...roughly from interior Volusia County southward across Metro Orlando to Lake Kissimmee. Some of these storms will become quite strong and possibly severe...containing strong wind gusts...frequent lightning strikes and very heavy rainfall.
