Tropical Storm Erika remains unorganized as it travels through the northeast Caribbean Sea. Puerto Rico could receive over a foot of rain from Erika, which could help the ongoing drought but could also produce dangerous mudslides. Erika is not forecast to reach hurricane strength until Monday when it curves northward along the east coast of Florida. Follow the live blog

Nowcast | as of 10:53 am EDT on August 28, 2015

Morning satellite imagery showed less debris cloudiness than yesterday...which was allowing for more heating. A very moist atmosphere continues in place and temperatures aloft were still moderately cool. This will allow for scattered storms to form on the East Coast sea breeze early in the afternoon. Atmospheric wind profiles are weaker than recent days...so storms will move little. Outflow boundaries will propagate storms inland...where the greatest coverage and strongest storms will occur by late afternoon. The main hazards will be frequent lightning strikes and minor flooding in the stronger storms that develop from vigorous boundary mergers.
