Winter Weather Advisory
Statement as of 3:39 AM EST on February 27, 2015

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 am EST this
morning...

* locations... the Piedmont and northern coastal plain including
The Triad... Triangle... Rocky Mount and surrounding areas.

* Hazard types... .areas of black ice across much of central North
Carolina. In addition... areas of dense freezing fog will reduce
the visibility to a quarter of a mile or less.

* Timing... through mid morning.

* Impacts... freezing of meltwater will create areas of black
ice. The refreezing of the ice and snow pack will result in
tricky travel and walking conditions. Be extremely cautions on
area roads... streets... sidewalks... parking lots... steps
and even on interstates... especially the bridges...
overpasses... and ramps.

* Temperatures... in the upper 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

The best way to avoid problems with black ice is to simply avoid
travel and walking this morning if possible. If you must
travel... take it slow and leave plenty of following distance.

When traveling through foggy areas... leave plenty of distance
between you and the vehicle ahead of you... and utilize your low
beam headlights.

Special Statement
Statement as of 6:33 AM EST on February 27, 2015

... Areas of black ice creating hazardous driving conditions this
morning...

Melting ice and snow coupled with overnight temperatures in the
20s have created areas of black ice. The icy spots are mainly on
bridges... overpasses and exit-entrance ramps. The North Carolina
Department of Transportation advises that if you must go out... to
use extreme caution and to slow down. They also report several
accidents due to slick roads across both The Triad and Triangle
regions this morning.

Road conditions will begin to improve after 9 am as temperatures
begin to warm to near freezing.
