heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is expected to
begin shortly. Rainfall estimates are exceeding three
inches... with additional rainfall expected.

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
central Richland County in central South Carolina...
central Lexington County in central South Carolina...

* until 300 am EDT

* at 1258 am EDT... Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause Urban and Small
Stream flooding in the advisory area. Up to one and a half inches
of rain has already fallen... with estimated rain rates of 2... to 3
inches per hour.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Columbia... Lexington... West Columbia... Cayce... Irmo... Forest
Acres... Five Points... Fort Jackson... Chapin and Gilbert.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in
urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other
poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel
