Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 23, 2013. A strong, large storm will continue making its way through the eastern third of the country on Thursday, producing more, active weather east of the Mississippi Valley. While the active weather is not likely to produce the severe thunderstorms that have greeted the country over the past several days, scattered thunderstorms will be likely, especially in the Southeast. In addition, moderate to occasionally heavy rain will move through the Northeast, followed by cool showers in the Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest.

Meanwhile, some moisture pushing into the Southern Plains could possibly instigate some severe thunderstorms in northern Texas and western Oklahoma. Due to this possibility, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather in the area for Thursday. This means residents in the area should prepare as if severe weather will develop, making any necessary preparations to protect life and property.

Also, a seasonably strong low pressure system will linger over the Pacific Northwest today, allowing wet weather to continue in the area. While rain will be the overwhelming precipitation due to this storm, a few snow showers will be possible in the higher elevations of the Cascades.

Additionally, rain will also spread as far east as central Montana.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures.

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 10 am MDT this
morning...

The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for heavy wet snow... which is in effect until 10
am MDT this morning.

* Impacts/timing: heavy snow continues to fall across the area
resulting in major impacts to area trees... power lines and
travel on both paved and unimproved roads. Reports from County
officials indicate that the heaviest snowfall is occurring on the
west end of town and likely along Montana Highway 1 leading up
to Georgetown Lake.

* Snowfall intensity should begin to decrease between 8 am and 10
am with roadways showing signs of improvement an hour or so
after sunrise.

* Snowfall amounts: reports indicate that between 2 and 5 inches
have already fallen and an additional 2 to 4 inches are possible
through middle of this morning.

* Locations impacted include... Butte... Georgetown Lake... Highway
12 Garrison to Elliston... MacDonald Pass

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties and could damage trees
and power lines. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited
visibilities... and use caution while driving.
