Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 23, 2013. A strong, large storm will continue making its way through the eastern third of the country on Thursday, producing more, active weather east of the Mississippi Valley. While the active weather is not likely to produce the severe thunderstorms that have greeted the country over the past several days, scattered thunderstorms will be likely, especially in the Southeast. In addition, moderate to occasionally heavy rain will move through the Northeast, followed by cool showers in the Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest.

Meanwhile, some moisture pushing into the Southern Plains could possibly instigate some severe thunderstorms in northern Texas and western Oklahoma. Due to this possibility, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather in the area for Thursday. This means residents in the area should prepare as if severe weather will develop, making any necessary preparations to protect life and property.

Also, a seasonably strong low pressure system will linger over the Pacific Northwest today, allowing wet weather to continue in the area. While rain will be the overwhelming precipitation due to this storm, a few snow showers will be possible in the higher elevations of the Cascades.

Additionally, rain will also spread as far east as central Montana.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures.

... Wind Advisory in effect from noon today to 9 PM PDT this
evening...

The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Wind
Advisory for northwest San Bernardino County... which is in effect
from noon today to 9 PM PDT this evening.

* Winds: southwest to west 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

* Timing: a decreasing trend in wind speeds early this morning will
be followed by an upswing from noon through early evening.

* Locations: Highway 395... I-15... Fort Irwin... Barstow... Daggett.

* Impacts: Crosswinds are expected to be strong enough to make
driving difficult on Highway 395... especially for high profile
vehicles. In addition... strong winds over desert areas could
result in briefly lowered visibilities at times in blowing dust or
blowing sand.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Drivers of motorcyles... vans... campers... trailers... and any high-
profile vehicle should be alert to the danger of these
winds... especially when driving along north-south roads.

... High minimum temperature record set at Mt. Charleston...

The low temperature this morning at the official coop site on
Mt. Charleston was 52 degrees. This reading breaks the previous record
for the highest minimum temperature for the date of 48 degrees set in
2011.

The above information is preliminary and is subject to a final
review and certification by the National climatic data center.
