Beach Hazard Statement
Statement as of 2:57 PM PDT on July 28, 2015

... Beach hazards statement in effect through Wednesday evening...

The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a beach
hazards statement for strong rip currents and elevated surf... which
is in effect through Wednesday evening.

* Waves and surf... San Diego County beaches... 4 to 6 feet with
local 8 foot sets... lowering to 3 to 5 feet on Wednesday. Orange
County beaches... 3 to 5 feet with local sets to 6 feet... lowering
to 2 to 4 feet with local sets to 5 feet Wednesday.

* Locations... exposed southwest facing beaches of Orange and San
Diego counties.

* Timing... through Wednesday evening.

* Impacts... strong rip currents and elevated surf will result in
very dangerous swimming conditions. Swimmers in shallow water
may unexpectedly get pulled out by the rip currents or the
larger breaking waves.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A beach hazards statement for rip currents means that conditions
are present to support a heightened risk of strong rip currents.
Rip currents are typically more frequent and stronger in the
vicinity of jetties... inlets... and piers. Swimmers caught in a rip
current should swim parallel to the coast to escape the rip
current before trying to swim for shore. Swimmers should always
swim near a lifeguard.
