Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 5:26 AM MDT on May 22, 2015

... The Flood Advisory remains in effect until 915 am MDT Friday for
El Paso County...

At 526 am MDT... Doppler radar indicated moderate rainfall tracking
across El Paso County that will cause minor flooding. Around a half
inch of rain has already fallen over much of the area.

Some locations that may experience flooding include... Colorado
Springs... Fountain... Monument... Air Force Academy... Manitou
Springs... Palmer Lake... Calhan... Green Mountain Falls... Ramah... Fort
Carson... Peyton... midway... Truckton... Hanover... Cascade... Black
Forest... Schriever AFB... Chipita Park... security-Widefield and
Cimarron Hills. This includes the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest
burn scar areas.

Additional rainfall of a quarter to a half inch is expected over the
area. This additional rain... on top of saturated ground... and full
streams... will create minor flooding problems.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from rainfall will cause elevated levels on small
creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas...
highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage
areas and low lying spots.

Excessive runoff from rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks
and streams... as well as farm and country roads. Do not attempt to
travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
