Flash Flood Warning
Statement as of 7:37 AM CDT on May 23, 2015

... Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for northern Randall and
southern Potter counties until 1100 am CDT...

* at 736 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
thunderstorm with very heavy rainfall 5 miles southwest of
Amarillo. Doppler radar estimates 1 to 3 inches of rain have
already fallen over parts of the warned area in the past 2 hours
with additional heavy rain expected. The intersections of 45th Ave
at western street and Ridgecrest were closed due to flash flooding.
Multiple stalled vehicles in high water have been reported across
the city of Amarillo this morning. While precipitation may taper
off in some areas... it will take some time for any high water to
runoff.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Amarillo... Lake Tanglewood... Bushland...
Timbercreek Canyon...

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will result in high water levels
at underpasses along Interstate 40... especially at the Bell and
Washington street bridges. Motorists are strongly urged to reduce
speeds on Interstate 40 and be prepared to be diverted off the
Interstate should high water be observed.
