Special Statement
Statement as of 5:59 AM CDT on August 04, 2015

... Heat index values increasing throughout the week and into the
weekend...

An increase in humidity will combine with afternoon temperatures
in the upper 90s and lower 100s to cause a noticeable increase in
heat index values today. Heat index values will approach but
remain below heat advisory criteria of 108 in the coastal plains
and 110 in the Rio Grande plains. Elsewhere... heat indices will be
in the 100 to 105 range except for parts of The Hill Country.

Elevated heat indices in the coastal plains and Rio Grande plains
will continue through at least Saturday as high pressure builds
back over south central Texas. A heat advisory may be needed later
this week or this weekend before humidity gradually decreases early
next week.

In addition to high heat indices... direct exposure to sunlight can
also contribute to dehydration and an increased likelihood of heat
related illness. If you are planning on working outside... make
sure you also plan on taking frequent shaded water breaks. In
addition... do not leave any children or pets unattended in
vehicles for any amount of time as temperatures will rise at a
rapid rate immediately after turning the vehicle off.
