A few of the stronger storms may produce small hail and brief periods of heavy rain. This activity should continue to lift northward at around 15 to 20 mph. Otherwise...skies should remain mostly cloudy across most of the region this afternoon...with the exception being across areas along and south of a Van to Corsicana to Mexia line.

Statement as of 2:27 PM CDT on May 22, 2015

The Flood Warning continues for
the Red River near Gainesville.

* Until further notice... or until the warning is cancelled.

* At 1:30 PM Friday the stage was 34.4 feet.

* Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.

* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.

* Forecast... the Red River will continue rising and crest near 34.8
feet early Sunday afternoon then begin falling.

* Impact... at 35 feet... crop and range lands... Pecan Groves... oil
Wells... and rural roads are flooded or isolated. Low-lying
fields... upstream in western Love County in Oklahoma... and Cooke
County in Texas... experience overflows several hours before the
crest reaches the Interstate Highway I-35 crossing north of
Gainesville. Livestock and other property should be removed to
places which are at least 10 feet higher than nearby river banks to
avoid being stranded.

Statement as of 12:56 PM CDT on May 22, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon
through Sunday evening...

The Flash Flood Watch is in effect for

* all of north central Texas.

* From Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening

* widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur
across north central Texas this weekend. The heavy rain will
develop and affect the western portions of the area Saturday
afternoon... with the activity gradually spreading eastward
Saturday night and into Sunday. The soil is already
saturated... so any additional heavy rainfall will cause flash
flooding.

* Widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches are expected across all of
north central Texas. Higher amounts of 2 to 4 inches are
expected in the areas mainly north and west of the dfw metroplex
where localized amounts of up to 6 inches are possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy
rain which may lead to flash flooding. You should monitor the
latest forecasts from the National Weather Service and be
prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued for
your area.
