Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 23, 2013. A strong, large storm will continue making its way through the eastern third of the country on Thursday, producing more, active weather east of the Mississippi Valley. While the active weather is not likely to produce the severe thunderstorms that have greeted the country over the past several days, scattered thunderstorms will be likely, especially in the Southeast. In addition, moderate to occasionally heavy rain will move through the Northeast, followed by cool showers in the Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest.

Meanwhile, some moisture pushing into the Southern Plains could possibly instigate some severe thunderstorms in northern Texas and western Oklahoma. Due to this possibility, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather in the area for Thursday. This means residents in the area should prepare as if severe weather will develop, making any necessary preparations to protect life and property.

Also, a seasonably strong low pressure system will linger over the Pacific Northwest today, allowing wet weather to continue in the area. While rain will be the overwhelming precipitation due to this storm, a few snow showers will be possible in the higher elevations of the Cascades.

Additionally, rain will also spread as far east as central Montana.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures.

... Significant weather advisory for scattered to numerous
thunderstorms in and near the Oklahoma City Metro area...

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop near
the Oklahoma City Metro area and affect the Moore... Edmond...
Shawnee... and Luther areas early this morning. The main hazards
from these storms will be cloud to ground lightning strikes...
small hail less than the size of a quarter... and brief heavy
downpours. These storms will move east of the Metro area between
9 and 11 am CDT.

There is a chance these storms may intensify and become
severe with hail up to the size of half dollars. No
tornadoes are expected with these storms.
