Statement as of 8:34 PM CDT on May 23, 2015

The National Weather Service in Wichita, KS has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Cottonwood River near Florence.
* From late tonight until Tuesday morning.
* At 8:00 PM Saturday the stage was 5.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early Sunday morning and
continue to rise to near 26.2 feet by Sunday evening. The river
will fall below flood stage by Monday evening.
* Impact... at 27.0 feet... flooding is sufficiently extensive to reach
driveways of property within 1.0 mile of the gage site.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Kansas and south central Kansas...
including the following areas... in central Kansas... Chase and
Marion. In south central Kansas... Butler... Cowley... Harvey...
Sedgwick and Sumner.

* Through Sunday afternoon.

* Showers and storms will continue this evening through Sunday
morning. Rainfall amounts are expected to generally be between
1.5 and 2.5 inches with locally higher amounts possible along
the Kansas-Oklahoma border. With grounds already saturated... any
additional rainfall will go into runoff and will likely result
in flooding.

* Those with outdoor plans along creeks and rivers need to
monitor the weather situation closely this weekend.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember to turn around... don't drown.
