Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 1:23 AM CDT on May 24, 2015

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Greenwood County in southeastern Kansas...
Chautauqua County in southeastern Kansas...
eastern Chase County in east central Kansas...
Elk County in southeastern Kansas...

* until 115 PM CDT Sunday

* at 118 am CDT... Doppler radar estimated widespread 1.50 to 3 inch
rainfall amounts across the warned area since Saturday afternoon.
These heavy rain amounts will likely lead to excessive runoff and
minor flooding of low-lying areas... creeks and streams.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Eureka... Sedan... Madison... Howard... Cedar Vale... Strong City...
Moline... Longton... Hamilton... Severy... Grenola... Fall River...
Peru... Chautauqua... Elk Falls... Elgin... Niotaze... Climax... Virgil
and Eureka City Lake.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 10:32 PM CDT on May 23, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of southeast Kansas... including the following
areas... Allen... Chautauqua... Elk... Greenwood... Labette...
Montgomery... Neosho... Wilson and Woodson.

* Through Monday morning.

* Showers and thunderstorms will continue overnight through
Sunday. The rain will be heavy at times. Storm total rainfall
amounts of 2 to 4 inches is expected with locally higher amounts
possible. With grounds already saturated... any additional
rainfall will go into runoff and will likely result in
flooding... including some river flooding.

* Those with outdoor plans along creeks and rivers need to
monitor the weather situation closely this weekend.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember to turn around... don't drown.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
