Statement as of 4:20 AM CDT on August 05, 2015

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
central through southeastern Kansas
southwestern Missouri
northeastern and extreme north-central Oklahoma

* effective this Wednesday morning from 420 am until 1100 am CDT.

* Primary threats include...
scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 75
    mph possible

Summary... a cluster of initially strong to marginally severe
thunderstorms is growing in size and becoming better-organized over
central Kansas... with a rear-inflow jet becoming evident. These
storms may expand and intensify further as they roll southeastward
toward the Oklahoma and southern Missouri state lines... offering
mainly damaging wind. Isolated large hail also is possible.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 80
statute miles east and west of a line from 45 miles north of
Hutchinson Kansas to 35 miles west of Grove Oklahoma. For a
complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline
update (wous64 kwns wou2).

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.

Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 65
knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 550. Mean storm
motion vector 31035.
