Winter Weather Advisory
Statement as of 10:32 AM CST on February 28, 2015

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST
Sunday...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and freezing rain remains in
effect until noon CST Sunday.

* Short term trends... moderate snow with embedded pockets of heavy
snow will overspread most of the Missouri Ozarks by early this
afternoon and will then persist for the remainder of the
afternoon. Snowfall rates of over an inch per hour can be
expected within bands of heavy snow. Total accumulations by dark
will range from 1 to 3 inches over most areas... with the
heaviest amounts along and north of the Interstate 44 corridor.
Local amounts around 4 inches will be possible in some areas by
dark.

The snow will diminish to light snow and flurries from west to
east across the region from later this evening into overnight
tonight. Light snow and flurries will then remain likely into
Sunday morning. A period of light freezing rain will also be
possible across mainly southern Missouri late tonight and Sunday
morning. Most of the precipitation will then change to rain by
Sunday afternoon across southern Missouri but a light wintry mix
will be possible north of Interstate 44.

* Timing and areas affected... the Winter Weather Advisory is in
effect for extreme southeastern Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks
through Sunday morning.

* Snow accumulations... storm total accumulations from 1 to 3
inches can be expected south of the Interstate 44 corridor with
the lightest totals across south central Missouri. 3 to 6 inches
of snow can be expected along and north of the Interstate 44
corridor. Localized amounts up to 7 inches will be possible.

* Ice accumulations... a thin glaze of ice with amounts generally
less than five hundredths of an inch can be expected... mainly
along and south of the Interstate 44 corridor.

* Visibility... visibilities will frequently be reduced to less
than a mile and will reduced down to a quarter mile within bands
of heavy snow.

* Impacts... the combination of falling and accumulating snow as
well as a thin glaze of ice will make travel conditions
difficult. The Kansas and Missouri departments of transportation
are reporting snow covered roadways along with numerous slide
offs and accidents.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and freezing
rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery
roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.
