After a devastating severe weather day in the Plains on Monday, severe weather is expected to fire up again across the nation's mid-section again on Tuesday.

The nearly stationary low over the Northern Plains will gradually weaken as it shifts eastward into the Midwest on Tuesday, while the system's associated cold front trails southwestward from the low across the Mid-Mississippi Valley through the Southern Plains. Favorable energy and conditions ahead of the cold front combined with the moisture laden conditions of the nation's mid-section will set the stage for multiple clusters of thunderstorms to develop from the Midwest into the Ozarks and the Southern Plains. Portions of northeastern Texas, extreme southeastern Oklahoma, central and southern Arkansas, and northwestern Louisiana are at moderate risk of severe thunderstorm activity as environmental conditions remain favorable for tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and very large hail. Areas surrounding this moderate risk region from the parts of central and eastern Texas into the Upper Great Lakes are at slight risk of severe thunderstorm development with hail, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes.

Meanwhile, areas of heavy rain and widely scattered showers will continue near the low in the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley and near and to the north of a nearly stationary frontal boundary extending out ahead of the system from the Great Lakes into the Northeast. Continued precipitation in already saturated areas of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest will maintain flood concerns from parts of North Dakota into northern Wisconsin.

Elsewhere, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to persist in the Mid-Atlantic and southeastern corner of the nation.

* until further notice.
* At 11:00 PM Monday the stage was 22.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 22.6 feet by
Tuesday morning then begin falling.
* Impact... at 22.5 feet... east end of Main Street in Portage Des Sioux
begins flooding near this height.

the Mississippi River at Alton lock and dam 26.
* From late tonight to Thursday morning.
* At 10:30 PM Monday the stage was 20.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 21.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early Tuesday and continue to
rise to near 21.3 feet by Tuesday morning. The river will fall
below flood stage by Wednesday morning.
* Impact... at 21.0 feet... flood stage. Minor flooding begins to occur
at this level.
* Impact... at 20.8 feet... unprotected farm land begins to flood

* At 10:00 PM Monday the stage was 14.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage tonight and continue to rise
to near 21.5 feet by Tuesday morning. The river will fall below
flood stage by Tuesday late evening.
* Impact... at 20.7 feet... the right hand bank floods at The Ball
fields at sports Center Park.
* Impact... at 20.0 feet... field in the middle of Brown Road Park
begins to flood.
* Impact... at 19.4 feet... Ball fields at sports Center Park become
flooded.
* Impact... at 19.2 feet... lone Wolff park begins flooding just south
of Main Street/Highway c, just west of St. Peters.
