Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 5:49 PM CDT on July 07, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from Wednesday morning
through Wednesday night...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Illinois... east central Illinois... north
central Illinois... south central Illinois... southeast Illinois
and west central Illinois... including the following areas... in
central Illinois... Christian... De Witt... Logan... Macon...
Marshall... Mason... McLean... Menard... Moultrie... Peoria...
Piatt... Sangamon... Shelby... Tazewell and Woodford. In east
central Illinois... Champaign... Clark... Coles... Crawford...
Cumberland... Douglas... Edgar and Vermilion. In north central
Illinois... Stark. In south central Illinois... Clay and
Effingham. In southeast Illinois... Jasper... Lawrence and
Richland. In west central Illinois... Cass... Fulton... Knox...
Morgan... Schuyler and Scott.

* From Wednesday morning through Wednesday night

* a weather system will bring showers and thunderstorms to the
area Wednesday through Wednesday night. The showers and
thunderstorms are expected to produce heavy rainfall as they
move over the area. An area of 1 to 2 inches of rainfall can be
expected south of I-72 through the period with locally higher
amounts possible. Up to 1 inch of rain is possible north of
I-72. The ground still remains saturated from around 1 inch of
rain received in past 24 hours with locally 1.5 to 3 inch
amounts. So any additional heavy rainfall could lead to flash
flooding of low lying areas and poor drainage areas.

* Heavy rainfall will result in flooding of poor drainage and
low lying areas... resulting in the potential of dangerous
flooding on smaller creeks and streams. This could also cause
rises on larger rivers and streams that are have been receding
in the past couple of days... and cause other rivers to remain
in the state of flood for a longer period of time.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
