Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 3:44 PM CST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect until midnight CST
tonight...

* short term trends... conditions will only marginally improve into
the evening hours. Visibilities will continue to drop down in
intermittent snow showers with strong gusty northwest winds. The
combination of strong wind and falling snow will continue to
produce blowing and drifting snow into the evening.

* Winds/visibility... northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 40
mph or more. Visibility will be reduced to below a mile at
times... and spotty areas down to near zero in rural open areas.

* Impacts... travel is not advised in some areas due to
considerable blowing snow and restricted visibilities. Numerous
accidents have been reported along Interstate 35 between Ames
and Clear Lake... and southbound lanes of Interstate 35 are
currently closed in those areas. Drifting snow will also cause
slick icy roads and dangerous travel. Conditions may change
rapidly... even across individual counties. Winds of this
magnitude may also affect driving of low profile vehicles and
loose light weight objects.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means that
periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be
prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities... and
use caution while driving especially in open areas.
