Watches & Warnings

Lake Effect Snow Advisory, Wind Chill Advisory
Issued: 9:39 AM EST Feb. 13, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect Snow Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST
this afternoon...
... Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until 10 am EST Sunday...

* wind chill... wind chills will dip below minus 10 and could get
as low as minus 15 at times. Wind chills may briefly climb
above minus 10 today but will fall back below minus 10
tonight.

* Impacts... dangerous wind chills can result in frostbite or
hypothermia in just a few minutes. Frigid temperatures could
freeze water pipes. Snow covered roads and reduced visibility
during heavier snow showers and squalls.

* Winds... northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Temperatures... temperatures will hold nearly steady between 10
to 15 degrees today. Lows tonight will be around 0 but could
be as cold as minus 10 at traditional cold spots.

* Snow timing... lake effect snow bands will continue today and
then begin to gradually diminish tonight.

* Snow accumulations... an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is
expected today... with storm totals around 5 inches.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... a Wind Chill Advisory is
issued when strong wind will combine with cold temperatures to
create dangerously cold conditions for exposed skin. The wind
will make it feel like it is 10 degrees below zero or colder for
a period of several hours. If you will be outdoors use common
sense and dress warmly... making sure that all exposed skin is
covered. Stay tuned to weather radio for further details or
updates.

In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow
in narrow bands to dry weather just a few miles away. If you will
be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in
Road and visibility conditions. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio
for further details or updates.
