Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 8:33 PM EDT on July 03, 2015

The National Weather Service in Jackson KY has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
Letcher County in southeastern Kentucky...
Perry County in southeastern Kentucky...
southeastern Clay County in southeastern Kentucky...
southern Knott County in southeastern Kentucky...
south central Floyd County in southeastern Kentucky...
Harlan County in southeastern Kentucky...
southwestern Pike County in southeastern Kentucky...
Leslie County in southeastern Kentucky...

* until midnight EDT

* at 829 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated showers and scattered
thunderstorms containing heavy rain tracking east towards the
area. Locations that see repeated rounds of heavy rainfall will
experience minor flooding of creeks and streams... roads... and
roadside culverts... especially in low lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
hazard... Whitesburg... Harlan... Hindman... Hyden... Cumberland...
Jenkins... Loyall... Elkhorn City... Evarts... Fleming-
Neon... Lynch... Pippa Passes... Wallins Creek... and Blackey.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect through Saturday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of east central Kentucky... northeast Kentucky... south
central Kentucky and southeast Kentucky... including the
following areas... in east central Kentucky... Bath... Elliott...
Estill... Fleming... Menifee... Montgomery... Powell and Rowan. In
northeast Kentucky... Johnson and Martin. In south central
Kentucky... Laurel... McCreary... Pulaski... Rockcastle... Wayne
and Whitley. In southeast Kentucky... Bell... Breathitt... Clay...
   Floyd... Harlan... Jackson... Knott... Knox... Lee... Leslie...
Letcher... Magoffin... Morgan... Owsley... Perry... Pike and Wolfe.

* Through Saturday morning

* showers and thunderstorms will affect much of the area through
tonight. The high moisture over the region will likely result
in times of torrential downpours. This rainfall in conjunction
with the heavy rains of the past couple of days may lead to
localized flash flooding.

* Localized rainfall in excess of 2 inches may occur.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
