Flash Flood Warning
Statement as of 10:04 PM EDT on July 05, 2015

... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 1245 am EDT for
northwestern Floyd County...

At 1003 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated showers and thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Doppler radar estimates
that between one and two inches of rain has fallen across portions
of the warned area since 9 PM. Up to an additional inch is possible
through 11 PM. Excessive runoff will cause flash flooding of creeks
and streams.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Prestonsburg... Dotson... Auxier... dicks creek... cliff... Bays Branch...
Bonanza and Lancer.

This includes the following streams and drainages... long Fork...
Middle Fork Lick Fork... Abbott creek... Long Branch... Bull
Creek... Wolf branch... little Paint Creek... Spurlock creek... corn
Fork... Middle Creek levisa Fork... Johns Creek and left Fork Middle
Creek levisa Fork.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Turn around... dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 11:23 PM EDT on July 05, 2015

The National Weather Service in Jackson KY has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
north central Letcher County in southeastern Kentucky...
southeastern Knott County in southeastern Kentucky...
southeastern Floyd County in southeastern Kentucky...
southwestern Pike County in southeastern Kentucky...

* until 215 am EDT

* at 1120 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated nearly stationary showers
containing moderate to heavy rainfall across the advisory area.
Excess runoff will cause minor flooding of creeks and
streams... roads... and roadside culverts... particularly in poor
drainage and low lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Pikeville... Coal Run Village... Wheelwright... Greenleaf... Tillie...
HI Hat... ehkhorn mine... Lester... Sackett... Craynor... Buckingham...
Coal Run... Beaver... Osborn... Speight... Dry Creek... Melvin...
Omaha... BUckhorn Hollow and Lucastown.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.
