Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 6:43 PM EDT on July 05, 2015

The National Weather Service in Jackson KY has issued a

* Flood Advisory for minor flooding in poor drainage areas for...
western Harlan County in southeastern Kentucky...
east central Bell County in southeastern Kentucky...

* until 845 PM EDT

* at 642 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to slow-
moving showers and thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding
of low lying and poor drainage areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Varilla... Blackmont... Pathfork... Callaway... Miracle... Black
Snake... Oaks... Balkan... Alva and Insull.

This includes the following streams and drainages... foresters
creek... Puckett Creek... Flat Branch... Straight Creek... Tom Fork...
Cowans branch... bird branch... Coal Stone Branch... pitmans
creek... toms branch... blacksnake branch and brownies creek.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through late tonight...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northeast Kentucky and southeast Kentucky...
including the following areas... in northeast Kentucky...
Johnson and Martin. In southeast Kentucky... Bell... Breathitt...
Floyd... Harlan... Knott... Leslie... Letcher... Magoffin... Perry
and Pike.

* Through late tonight

* slow moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring
locally heavy rainfall on top of already wet ground.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
