... Winter Storm Warning now in effect from 11 am EST /10 am CST/
this morning to 1 PM EST /noon CST/ Thursday...

The Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 11 am EST /10 am
CST/ this morning to 1 PM EST /noon CST/ Thursday.

* Timing: rain will transition over to sleet around lunchtime
along the I-64 corridor and a little later over the Kentucky
parkways. This sleet then will transition by mid afternoon to
snow... becoming heavy at times Wednesday evening and night.
Snow ends Thursday morning.

* Accumulations: 8 to 12 inches of snow across central and north
central Kentucky. Localized higher amounts possible.

* Main impact: major travel disruptions Wednesday afternoon
through Thursday morning. Plan on snow covered roads and
dangerous travel conditions. Snow rates may be intense...
resulting in rapid accumulations.

* Other impacts: north winds gusting up to 20 mph Wednesday
night. This combined with the weight of the snow could result
in scattered power outages and downed trees.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Travel will be treacherous with some roads nearly impassable.
Have an emergency kit of blankets... food... water and flashlights
if you must travel.

heavy rainfall from repeated rain showers over the advisory area. A
half inch to 1 inch of rain has fallen so far and combined with
runoff from recent snow melt minor will cause minor flooding
concerns for the morning commute.

Additional rainfall amounts of up to 1 inch of rain are possible in
the advisory area this morning before rain changes to snow.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams... and ponding of water on country roads and
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

... Flood Watch now in effect through this evening...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of southern Indiana and all of central Kentucky.

* Through this evening... though a transition to snow from north to
south will occur during the afternoon.

* Heavy rainfall of an additional inch to three inches on soils
saturated from recent snow melt.

* Flooding of low-lying and poorly drained areas is likely.
Minor flooding on small creeks and streams.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
