After a devastating severe weather day in the Plains on Monday, severe weather began to fire up again across the nation's mid-section on Tuesday.

The nearly stationary low over the Northern Plains showed signs of gradual weakening as it shifted eastward toward the Mississippi River Valley on Tuesday, while the system's associated cold front trailed southwestward from the low across the Mid-Mississippi Valley through the Southern Plains. Favorable energy and conditions ahead of the cold front combined with the moisture laden conditions of the nation's mid-section set the stage for multiple clusters of thunderstorms to develop from the Midwest into the Ozarks and the Southern Plains. Portions of north-central/northeastern Texas, southern Arkansas, northwestern Louisiana and far southeastern Oklahoma remained at moderate risk of severe thunderstorm activity as environmental conditions remained favorable for tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and very large hail. In particular, substantial severe weather was expected across north-central Texas to the

ArkLaTex region this afternoon and evening. Areas surrounding this moderate risk region from the Southern Plains to the Tennessee/Ohio valleys and the Lower Great Lakes/Northeast remained at slight risk of severe thunderstorm development with hail, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes. In addition to severe storms, heavy rains created chances of flood and possible isolated areas of flash flooding from parts eastern Oklahoma through northern Arkansas.

Meanwhile, areas of heavy rain and widely scattered showers continued near the low in the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley and near and to the north of a nearly stationary frontal boundary extending out ahead of the system from the Great Lakes into the inland areas of the Northeast. Continued precipitation in already saturated areas of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest maintain flood concerns from parts of North Dakota into northern Wisconsin.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
southeast Arkansas
northeast Louisiana
central Mississippi

* effective this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 900 PM
until 200 am CDT.

* Primary threats include...
several damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
a few large hail events to 1 inch in diameter possible

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 75
statute miles east and west of a line from 25 miles south
southeast of Fort Polk Louisiana to 40 miles east northeast of
Greenwood Mississippi. For a complete depiction of the watch see

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.

embedded small bows and sustained storms in lewp crests posing a

to 1 inch. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots.
A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm motion

* Until Saturday afternoon.
* At 9:00 PM Tuesday the stage was 36.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 37.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue slowly falling over the next several
days..
* impact... at 35.0 feet... the Road to Donaldson Point is cut off.

... Gusty thunderstorms still pushing through portions of the
arklamiss Delta...

A line of strong thunderstorms capable of producing 40 to 50 mph
winds was located from 7 miles northwest of Parchman to 18 miles
southwest of Eudora at 933 PM CDT... moving east at 30 mph.

Very heavy rain along with occasional to frequent cloud to ground
lightning strikes are also possible with these storms.

High winds can bring down trees and large limbs resulting in serious
injury or property damage. Exercise extreme caution when outdoors
during such strong winds... and be especially aware of older trees.

People in southeastern Bolivar... southwestern Grenada... northwestern
Leflore... Sunflower... Washington... Chicot and southeastern Ashley
counties should monitor these storms closely.

... Line of strong storms about ready to get east of the Mississippi
River...

A line of strong thunderstorms capable of producing penny to nickel
size hail and 40 to 50 mph winds was located from 8 miles northwest
of Rosedale to 48 miles west of Greenville at 839 PM CDT... moving
east at 40 mph.

Very heavy rain along with continuous cloud to ground lightning are
also possible with these storms.

High winds can bring down trees and large limbs resulting in serious
injury or property damage. Exercise extreme caution when outdoors
during such strong winds... and be especially aware of older trees.

People in Bolivar and northern Washington counties should monitor
these storms closely.
