Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 3:28 AM EST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk in effect from 7 am EST this morning
through Tuesday morning...
... High surf advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 am
EST Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a high
surf advisory. A high rip current risk has also been issued.

* Surf... peaking around 7 feet.

* Timing... this afternoon into Tuesday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.

There is a high risk of rip currents. Rip currents are powerful
channels of water flowing quickly away from shore... which occur
most often at low spots or breaks in The Sandbar and in the
vicinity of structures such as groins... jetties and piers. Heed
the advice of lifeguards... beach patrol flags and signs.

If you become caught in a rip current... Yell for help. Remain
calm... do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. If you have to swim out of a rip current... swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

Wind Advisory
Issued: 2:23 AM CST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory in effect from noon EST /11 am CST/ today to
9 PM EST /8 PM CST/ this evening...

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from noon EST /11 am CST/ today to
9 PM EST /8 PM CST/ this evening.

* Winds... west 25 to 30 mph with gusts over 40 mph possible.

* Locations... strongest sustained winds and gusts will occur
across beach communities.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 26 mph or frequent
gusts to 40 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving
difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra
caution.
