Severe thunderstorm activity will persist for the Plains on Sunday as a broad low pressure system continues trekking through the region. The system will move from the Northern Plains and into the Great Lakes, creating two frontal boundaries. The warm front associated with this system will extend eastward over the Great Lakes and into the Northeast, kicking up scattered showers and thunderstorms into Sunday night. At the same time, a cold front extends southward from this system which will move off the Central Rockies and into the Central and Southern Plains. Counter-clockwise flow around this broad system will pull moisture and energy into the Plains from the Gulf of Mexico. This will support moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms in between these two fronts. This system has a history of severe thunderstorm development across the Northern and Central Plains, thus, there is a moderate risk of severe thunderstorm development with large hail, damaging winds, and multiple tornadoes. These severe thunderstorms will most likely develop across central and eastern Oklahoma, through eastern Kansas, and into western Missouri. A slight risk of severe storm development remains in effect from northern Texas, through southern Minnesota and Wisconsin on Sunday. At the same time, the back side of this system will continue spreading moisture over the Intermountain West and Rockies. This will trigger more showers with isolated thunderstorms over the region through Sunday evening.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure slowly moves over the East Coast and maintains shower and thunderstorm activity for the Mid-Atlantic states through the Northeast.

... Flood Warning extended until Monday afternoon... the Flood Warning
continues for
the Suwanee Creek near Suwanee.
* Until Monday afternoon.
* At 12 PM Sunday the stage was 10.3 feet... and rising.
* Minor flooding will continue.
* Flood stage is 8 feet.
* The creek will continue rising to near 10.5 feet by this afternoon.
The creek will fall below flood stage Monday morning.
* At 11 feet... moderate begins in the Suwanee Creek park... Martin
farm park and George Pierce Park. The Suwanee Creek Greenway is
flooded with 1 to 3 feet of water. Water reaches the swift Atlanta
company parking lot. Portions of the Suwanee Creek Road flood near
the Bennett Creek bridge. Flooding expands into the yards off Bend
creek trail and Mill Creek run. A large portion of the playground
behind the Suwanee Elementary School will be flooded. The water
level will reach the bottom of the Martin farm Road bridge.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Chattahoochee River near Norcross.
* Until this evening.
* At 12 PM Sunday the stage was 12.4 feet... and rising.
* Minor flooding will continue.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 13.3 feet by this afternoon.
The river will fall below flood stage late this afternoon.
* At 12 feet... flood stage is reached and minor flooding begins.
Flood waters will begin to cover Chattahoochee River National
Recreation Area parking lot at Medlock Bridge Park. In addition...
bottomland flooding increases in the flood plain.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Sweetwater creek near Lilburn.
* Until further notice.
* At 12 PM Sunday the stage was 13 feet... and steady.
* Minor flooding will continue.
* Flood stage is 11 feet.
* The creek appears to be cresting at this time. It should fall
through the afternoon.
* At 13 feet... minor flooding will continue to expand further into
the Northwood Country Club Golf course upstream from the gage on
Club Drive... and in the Woodland areas downstream from the gage...
and for the next four miles until the creek merges with the Yellow
River. An old Concrete Golf cart bridge around 300 feet downstream
from the gage will be around two feet under water.

... Forecast flooding increased from minor to moderate severity... the
Flood Warning continues for
the Alcovy river near Lawrenceville.
* Until late tonight.
* At 12 PM Sunday the stage was 10.9 feet... and rising.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 9 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 11.3 feet by this afternoon.
The river will fall below flood stage this evening.
* At 11 feet... moderate flooding begins. Significant flooding
expands further into The Woodlands upstream and downstream from the
river gauge at New Hope Road. The water level reaches the bottom of
the bridge. County officials may need to close the bridge due to
erosion to the banks on the sides of the bridge.
* This crest compares to a previous crest of 11.2 feet on Sep 21 2009.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of central Georgia... east central
Georgia... north central Georgia... northeast Georgia...
northwest Georgia and west central Georgia.

* Through this evening

* National Weather Service radar indicates that two to four inches
of rain... with locally higher amounts... has fallen across
portions of north and central Georgia this morning. Additional
amounts of one to two inches with locally higher amounts are
possible. The heavy rainfall axis will shift to the southwest
across the Metro Atlanta area during the mid to late morning.

* Flooding of the larger creeks and rivers is possible with
additional rainfall.

* Localized flash flooding will be possible if the heavy rain
repeatedly moves over the same area. Also... storm drains...
ditches... and low lying areas may become quickly clogged with
debris and cause extensive street flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor
later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those
living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
