Coastal Flood Warning
Issued: 4:08 AM EST Feb. 9, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 am EST this
morning...

* location... the usual vulnerable areas along the ocean side of
Hatteras Island vulnerable to ocean overwash and erosion from
large swells.

* Coastal flooding... ocean overwash is the main concern around the
time of high tide this morning. Large swells impacting the
beaches could produce erosion and ocean overwash. Water could
briefly cover portions of Highway 12 in the usual areas
susceptible to ocean overwash from large swells.

* Timing... this morning around 8 am at the time of high tide.

* Impacts... ocean overwash and beach erosion

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.
