Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 6:20 PM EDT on May 28, 2015

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flood Advisory for minor flooding in poor drainage areas for...
Charlotte County in south central Virginia...
northern Pittsylvania County in south central Virginia...
Campbell County in central Virginia...
northwestern Halifax County in south central Virginia...
southeastern Bedford County in south central Virginia...

* until 1215 am EDT

* at 617 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to slow
moving thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding. Overflowing
poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory
area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen across portions
of Charlotte... Pittsylvania and Bedford counties.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Altavista...
Hurt...
Gretna...
Brookneal...
and Keysville.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... as well as farm and country roads. Do not
attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

When it is safe to do so... please send your reports of flooding...
including mudslides or Road closures... to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free at 1... 8 6 6... 2 1 5... 4 3 2 4. Reports
and pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service
Blacksburg facebook Page and on twitter.
