* Flood Advisory for minor flooding in poor drainage areas for...
Charlotte County in south central Virginia...
northern Pittsylvania County in south central Virginia...
Campbell County in central Virginia...
northwestern Halifax County in south central Virginia...
southeastern Bedford County in south central Virginia...

* until 1215 am EDT

* at 617 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to slow
moving thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding. Overflowing
poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory
area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen across portions
of Charlotte... Pittsylvania and Bedford counties.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Altavista...
Hurt...
Gretna...
Brookneal...
and Keysville.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... as well as farm and country roads. Do not
attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

When it is safe to do so... please send your reports of flooding...
including mudslides or Road closures... to the National Weather

Statement as of 5:31 PM EDT on May 28, 2015

... Strong thunderstorms will affect Charlotte... eastern
Pittsylvania... southeastern Campbell and Halifax counties through
630 PM EDT...

At 528 PM EDT... several clusters of thunderstorms were developing
across the northern portion of the advisory area from Charlotte
Court House... to Phenix... to Brookneal... to Straightstone... with
very little movement indicated.

Winds in excess of 30 mph are possible with this storm. Frequent
cloud-to-ground lightning and very heavy rain can also be expected
with all of this activity.

Locations impacted include...
South Boston...
Halifax...
Chatham...
Brookneal...
and Keysville.

Very heavy rainfall is occurring with these storms... and may cause
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 15 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
