The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
rain and snow melt in...
west central Roanoke County in west central Virginia...
northeastern Montgomery County in southwestern Virginia...
the city of Salem in west central Virginia...

* until 415 am EST Friday

* at 931 PM EST... automated gauges continued to show that water
levels remained near flood stage along the Roanoke River
especially around Salem.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Salem...
Salem city...
Glenvar...
Elliston-Lafayette...
and Cave Spring.

The river will remain high enough for another couple of hours to
affect portions of Mill Lane in Salem.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.

When it is safe to do so... please send your reports of flooding...
including mudslides or Road closures... to the National Weather

... Slick roads due to areas of ice overnight...

As most precipitation has ended... temperatures have quickly
dropped below freezing this evening. This will allow areas of
residual slush and water to refreeze into ice overnight making for
slippery conditions on roads and sidewalks through early Friday
morning. Anyone planning to venture out should be alert for areas
of ice especially near bridges and overpasses as well as along
secondary roads.
