Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 24, 2013.

Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

Overnight showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue to move into and through the area. The overall intensity trend is edging downward. Some locally heavy downpours will continue to occur, mainly from the Interstate 95 corridor southeastward. Rainfall amounts between midnight and 3 am should average one tenth to one quarter of an inch with some locally higher amounts.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly NJ has issued a

* small stream Flood Advisory for...
Monroe County in northeast Pennsylvania...
eastern Carbon County in northeast Pennsylvania...

* until 215 am EDT

* at 1011 PM EDT Doppler radar was showing thunderstorms with
heavy rain over eastern Carbon and western Monroe counties.
Automated gages were showing rainfall amounts exceeding
one inch in an hour. Additional heavy rain is likely in the
advisory area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams... and ponding of water on country roads and
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding
of water is occurring or is imminent.
