Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, May 23, 2013. A strong, large storm will continue making its way through the eastern third of the country on Thursday, producing more, active weather east of the Mississippi Valley. While the active weather is not likely to produce the severe thunderstorms that have greeted the country over the past several days, scattered thunderstorms will be likely, especially in the Southeast. In addition, moderate to occasionally heavy rain will move through the Northeast, followed by cool showers in the Ohio Valley and Upper Midwest.

Meanwhile, some moisture pushing into the Southern Plains could possibly instigate some severe thunderstorms in northern Texas and western Oklahoma. Due to this possibility, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather in the area for Thursday. This means residents in the area should prepare as if severe weather will develop, making any necessary preparations to protect life and property.

Also, a seasonably strong low pressure system will linger over the Pacific Northwest today, allowing wet weather to continue in the area. While rain will be the overwhelming precipitation due to this storm, a few snow showers will be possible in the higher elevations of the Cascades.

Additionally, rain will also spread as far east as central Montana.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 80s and 90s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures.

lying areas are subject to flooding.

Do not underestimate the power of flood waters. Only a few inches of

* at 254 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
flash flooding from numerous thunderstorms over the warned area.
Over 3 inches of rain has fallen across some of the area due to
previous storms... and flooding has already been reported. The
additional heavy rain over the area will exacerbate existing
flooding and lead to new areas of flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses
as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

northeast. Additional showers and thunderstorms continue to
develop to the southwest of the region. This activity is expected
to impact the area into the early evening. Urban and Small Stream
flooding can be expected into the early evening.

At 254 PM EDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
that around 1 inch of rain had fallen across the area... with some
locations receiving up to 3 inches. Additional heavy showers and
thunderstorms continue to develop over and to the southwest of the
region. These storms will be capable of producing additional heavy
rain across the area. Urban and Small Stream flooding can be
expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...
