The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a Winter Storm
Warning for heavy snow... which is in effect from 1 am Saturday to
1 am EST Sunday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

* Locations... interior Hancock and southern Penobscot County.

* Hazard types... snow and blowing snow late tonight through
Saturday. Cold wind chills late Saturday night into Sunday
morning.

* Snow accumulations... snow accumulation of 5 to 10 inches in a
very narrow band near Penobscot Bay. Amounts will likely drop
off considerably as one heads north and east from the Bay.

* Timing... snow to occur late tonight to Saturday evening. Cold
wind chills are expected late Saturday night into Sunday
morning.

* Impacts... locally heavy snowfall along with areas of blowing
snow will result in difficult driving conditions.

* Winds... north 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Temperatures... highs 15 to 20 on Saturday... dropping into the
single digits below zero Saturday night.

* Visibilities... one quarter mile or less at times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds
will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in
frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
If you must venture outdoors... make sure you wear a hat and
gloves.
