Tropical Storm Erika remains unorganized as it travels through the northeast Caribbean Sea. Puerto Rico could receive over a foot of rain from Erika, which could help the ongoing drought but could also produce dangerous mudslides. Erika is not forecast to reach hurricane strength until Monday when it curves northward along the east coast of Florida. Follow the live blog

Statement as of 5:39 AM AST on August 28, 2015

The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for rapid rises for...
San Lorenzo municipality in Puerto Rico...
Caguas municipality in Puerto Rico...
Juncos municipality in Puerto Rico...
Las Piedras municipality in Puerto Rico...
Ceiba municipality in Puerto Rico...
Canovanas municipality in Puerto Rico...
Naguabo municipality in Puerto Rico...
Rio Grande municipality in Puerto Rico...

* until 630 am AST

* at 533 am AST... runoff from overnight rains continue to cause
Urban and Small Stream flooding in the advisory area. Up to 3
inches of rain has already fallen... and Doppler radar indicated
some showers will once again move into the area over the next
hour... therefore the Flood Advisory will be extended until 630 am
AST.

* Some locations that will continue to experience flooding
include... Las Piedras... Juncos... San Lorenzo... Rio Grande and Rio
Blanco

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

on dry guts and streams. Flooding in flood prone areas can be also
be expected.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Las

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Friday morning...

The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.

* Through Friday morning

* there is a potential for flooding rainfall across Puerto Rico
and the U.S. Virgin Islands as Tropical Storm Erika moves across
the eastern Caribbean. Rainfall forecasts over the local area
are expected to be between 4 and 8 inches with isolated maximums
of 12 inches possible. Due to heavy rains across portions of the
western interior of Puerto Rico over the past few weeks... their
soils are super saturated... therefore significant flooding may
occur in that region. Regardless of the antecedent soil
conditions... localized flash flooding and land slides are
possible in areas of high intensity tropical downpours... which
can occur with Tropical Storm Erika.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
