Statement as of 7:12 AM CDT on July 12, 2009
... Heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Monday...
A heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Monday.
Afternoon high temperatures will be from 100 to 105 degrees through
Monday across the advisory area. Combined with with the humidity...
will produce heat index values between 105 and 110 degrees today and
Monday. Nighttime temperatures will not cool off much... only dropping
into the upper 70s and lower 80s.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather
when the inside of vehicles can reach lethal temperatures in a matter
of minutes... despite cracking windows or previously having used air
conditioning.
Persons involved in vigorous outdoor activities are urged to take frequent
breaks and drink plenty of water. Wear loose fitting and light colored
clothing. Be sure to check on persons with health problems and the elderly...
as they are the most susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
