regional weather discussion... Very hot weather will continue region wide through this evening. At 330 PM...aside from a few southeastern Oklahoma stations in the upper 90s...most locations reported at least 100 degrees. Some of the hottest temperatures included 109 degrees at Kingfisher...and 108 degrees at Buffalo...Freedom...and Guthrie. Relative humidity ranged from near 14 percent in northwest Oklahoma...to 25 percent along the Interstate 44 corridor...and up to 40 percent in southeast Oklahoma. Winds were from the southwest...and sustained speeds averaged only 10 to 16 mph...but deep vertical mixing had resulted in significant gust speeds. This was especially true over central...west central...and northwest Oklahoma...where occasional gusts around 25 mph will be common through 6 PM. Upper level high pressure remained centered over the Texas Panhandle...while an upper level trough...and cooler weather was in place over the Central Plains and Midwest states. The boundary between these two weather regimes was marked by a cold front running from southwest Missouri across far southern and western Kansas. This front is forecast once again...to approach north central and northeast Oklahoma late tonight...with thunderstorms occurring farther north into Kansas. It is unlikely...however...that the front will make any significant progress into Oklahoma...before lifting back northward on Monday.
