The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
northeast Kansas
northwest Missouri
Effective this Sunday morning from 550 am until 1000 am CDT.
Hail to 1.5 inches in diameter... thunderstorm wind gusts to 70
mph... and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 50
statute miles either side of a line from 15 miles west southwest
of Manhattan Kansas to 60 miles east southeast of Kansas City
Missouri. For a complete depiction of the watch see the
associated watch outline update (wous64 kwns wou3).
Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.
Discussion... well organized linear MCS is expected to continue
moving at 40-50 mph across ww through the early morning along axis
of strong instability. Activity should tend to shift a bit more
sewd with time. Stronger cores within the line may be capable of
large hail and isolated damaging winds... although a greater threat
could evolve with more organized strong-severe outflow winds given
the very organized nature and fast motion of the line.
Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60
knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm
motion vector 28040.
